SUDANESE JOURNAL OF PAEDIATRICS

2023; Vol 23, Issue No. 2

ABOUT THE COVER

The cover of the current issue of the Sudanese Journal of Paediatrics (SJP) reflects on the story of the Sudanese conjoined twins Hassan and Hussein who made medical history in April 1987, being the first conjoined twins in Britain to be successfully separated (see Editorial). Their photograph overlays the pyramids of the Kushite civilisation in Meroe, the Southern Capital of the Napta/Meroitic Kingdom (800 BC–350 AD) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mero%C3%AB). Also depicted is the Meroitic script, the indigenous alphabet consisting of 23 letters, which was developed in the Naptan Period at about 700–300 BC and was used to write the Meroitic language. The Arabic script of the ‘Sudanese Journal of Paediatrics’, which reflects the current main language and culture, was designed at the College of Fine and Applied Arts, Sudan University of Science and Technology, by Taha El Atta, PhD.
